The artist has given the full amount of his twenty-five thousand pound Mercury Prize prize money to the trust for venues, which works to protect the United Kingdom's grassroots concert spaces.

He was presented with the cheque on 16 October as his new release his work was chosen as the outstanding release of the past year.

The musician has decided to hand the money over to the MVT, in recognition of the crucial part small stages played in his early career.

"I wouldn't be doing my current career if it wasn't for all the performances I performed around the region, and further afield, when I was beginning," stated the artist. "These venues are iconic, but they are in difficulty."

Since the start of 2023, more than 150 of these spaces have permanently closed – about 16 percent of the entire UK sector.

In the last year, major artists such as Pulp, Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all supported the Music Venues Trust in its attempts to support the industry, by applying a minor surcharge to their ticket prices, which benefits smaller concert halls.

Fender also took part, collecting in excess of £100,000 on his live tour to help 38 small stages across Britain.

These funds assisted locations that were confronting potential shutdown due to difficulties arising from floods, blazes and bereavements, as well as licensing issues, conflicts and sound issues.

Other venues obtained monetary aid in improving facilities and gear that helped performers and concertgoers.

"The notion that funds from shows in major spaces helps the local stages, where it kicks off for performers like me, is just logical," Fender has stated.

The musician is among several artists to contribute his Mercury Prize prize money to good deeds.

In they won the prize in the year 1996 for their album Different Class, vocalist Cocker stated that the group would contribute their prize money to the non-profit War Child.

During 2002, musician she divided her bounty among multiple good causes, like the children's charity and a charity for Sickle Cell.

"I also gave a thousand pounds to the center, to their gymnastics program, because I practiced gymnastics when I was growing up and they lacked updated gear," Ms Dynamite shared with the media.

In recent years, Ezra Collective donated their winnings to the local youth club that developed their act, in addition to other grassroots music organisations.

Also the 1994 recipients the group gave their award to a charity for MS after a close contact was identified with the illness.

"Winning was ample," said artist Heather Small. "The prize was the cherry on top but we could do without the extra, because we had the cake. So our victory impacted the lives of others."

Last week, the Music Venues Trust shared it had saved several small stages in south-east England, by bringing them into community ownership.

The first in Southampton and the other in the city were acquired under the public acquisition program, which is funded by a national body and music fans who buy "shares" in the properties.
